Planeta extra virgin olive oil (aka Val Di Mazara olive oil) is made from a blend of Nocellara del Belice (50%), Biancolilla (30%) and Cerasoula (20%) olives. This is a strong-flavored extra virgin olive oil variety full of character. Its starts out powerfully nutty and somewhat bitter, moves into a rich, buttery middle, then finishes with a bold spicy flavor. The olives used to make this oil are grown in a 98 hectare grove in the Capparrina district of Menfi on the island of Sicily. They are hand-picked and processed using a cold, continuous cycle press in the grove within hours of their removal from the trees. Val Di Mazara extra virgin olive oil has earned D.O.P. (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) protection, meaning that the Italian government has recognized it for its unique character and fine quality.
